Ron Paul’s response:
http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS233377+08-Jan-2008+BW20080108

ARLINGTON, Va.--(Business Wire)--In response to an article published by The New Republic, Ron Paul issued the following statement:

"The quotations in The New Republic article are not mine and do
not represent what I believe or have ever believed. I have never
uttered such words and denounce such small-minded thoughts.

"In fact, I have always agreed with Martin Luther King, Jr. that we should only be concerned with the content of a person's character, not the color of their skin. As I stated on the floor of the U.S. House on April 20, 1999: 'I rise in great respect for the courage and high ideals of Rosa Parks who stood steadfastly for the rights of
individuals against unjust laws and oppressive governmental policies.'

"This story is old news and has been rehashed for over a decade. It's once again being resurrected for obvious political reasons on the day of the New Hampshire primary.

"When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine full-time, a newsletter was published under my name that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to the product. For over a decade, I have publically taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name."

Ron Paul on Martin Luther King
January 21st, 2008 by Dan McCarthy

There’s considerable consonance between Dr. Paul’s views and Dr. King’s, in their stands against militarism and for civil liberties. Dr. Paul says it best himself:

“It is especially fitting that we take the time to reflect on one man’s struggles to defend our Constitutional freedoms during this primary election season. January 15 was the birthday of the great freedom fighter, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and on Monday, we honor him nationwide for his sacrifice and love of liberty for all people.

“To me, the timing is more than a coincidence. The American people, regardless of color or creed, have the opportunity to choose a candidate who will uplift the ideals for which Dr. King fought—and died.

“The fight for freedom—the preservation of our civil rights—is the fight of our lives. Sadly, after Dr. King’s passing we are faced with a violation of our civil rights in the same vein as Jim Crow: The Patriot Act. I have stood against this and all unconstitutional violations of American’s civil rights, and will continue Dr. King’s charge as President.

“Dr. King would be disappointed in our current administration for more than its continued disregard for civil rights, as he stated ‘a nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.’ We need to change our interventionist foreign policy, and take care of our brothers and sisters at home. Our nation is in a crisis: we are spending billions on war overseas while those around us are suffering and losing jobs, homes, and hope. It is inexcusable; we must solve the economic crisis at home and bring hope to America.

“Dr. King’s heroic actions should resonate with us today, as we recognize that our votes strengthen the fight for our civil rights. Liberty is the true antidote to racism, and freedom– limited, constitutional government devoted to the protection of individual rights—can uplift us all.”

Russell Means for Vice-President!!!

I would love to see self-proclaimed "Constitutional Revolutionary," (1) Lakota, Libertarian, Russell Means, on the 2008 Presidential Ticket w/ Ron Paul!!!

While campaigning for the Libertarian Party's Presidential nomination in 1988, Means warned our nation:

"We will prove to every American that America is becoming one big Indian reservation," said Mr. Means, who contends that non-Indians face the same danger of losing their land and their rights that Indians have faced for centuries."

"I challenge every American to make a list of what they feel their individual rights are, and then, item by item, find out how much government is interfering with those rights," he said. "I have been trying to throw off the yoke of government interference in our lives since I joined the American Indian Movement…"

“…The 47-year-old candidate, dressed in a black shirt with fringed sleeves and wearing his hair in braids, said it was natural for an Indian to embrace Libertarian philosophy because it fitted the Indian belief in personal freedom.”(2)
